COOKING OIL HAS BEEN RUNNING SHORT IN SEVERAL STATES FROM ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO. The shortage is spreading. The authorities apparently paid little attention if at all.
What is happening according to retailers is the distributors charge them RM2.60 for a 1kg. packet that has printed on it RM2.50 as the retail price. How much can they sell the packet to their customers before someone lodges a complaint and get them in trouble. Hence, they refuse to deal.

In the meantime, the price of a can of FNN sweetened milk has risen from RM 2.10 to RM 2.60 retail. Retailers bought it at RM1.85 and sold it for RM 2.10 about two months ago. Now they buy it at RM 2.40 and sell it for RM2.60. Watch the margin of profit they make.

Distributors sold I kg. of wheat flour to retailers at RM 1.50 before the big leap in the price. Retailers sold it at RM 1.80, making 30 sens per kg.

Now the distributors' price is RM 2.55 per kg. and retailers sell it for RM2.80. Count the margin before and after the price hike and you'll get the gist of the inflation to retailers.

Since wheat flour can go bad, some retailers choose not to stock it.
And as a result of that price hike, prices of some brands of bread rose from RM1.90 to RM2.90 retail!

What will happen if the price of petrol reaches RM2.60 per liter from RM1.92 currently and cooking gas goes up to RM 28.50 from RM24.00? Some retailers believe the price of gas will hit RM30.00 per 14 kg. retail.
Hey man, wake up! Our SMEs are already in trouble! And the people too!

In matters of conscience, the law of the majority has no place-Mahtma
